Salary Guidelines for Au Pair Families

At Active Kids Tutor & Au Pair Agency, we believe in fair and transparent pay that reflects the important role au pairs play in supporting families. Our rates comply with and exceed South Africa’s National Minimum Wage of R28.79, ensuring that every placement is both ethical and professional.

 

The minimum rate for all au pairs placed through Active Kids is R65 per hour, this rate does not apply to an aupair that does any driving.

Our Fees

Au Pair

R400 once off admin fee

Placement Fee:

  • 7% of Candidate's annual salary

    • (eg. R7500 monthly salary x 12 months x 7% = R6300)

  • Includes a contract template and 3 month guarantee period​

Babysitter

R400 once off admin fee

  • R120 daily booking fee or R600 weekly booking fee or R2750 long term usage

  • This excludes your payment to the babysitter

Contract Templates

R400 for a contract template
Employment contract templates are available for purchase through Active Kids Au Pairs.
This service is ideal for families who have sourced their own au pairs, nannies, or childcare staff, but still require professional assistance in finalising a legally compliant employment agreement.

Criminal Checks

R400 for a criminal check

Criminal background checks can be requested separately through Active Kids Au Pairs.
This service is available to existing clients, as well as families who have independently found their own au pairs, nannies, or childcare staff.

The Process

Register your Family

  • Step 1: Fill in our detailed online application form. Once we have reviewed your application form, a member of the Active Kids Team will contact you and work with you to find the best possible Au Pair.

  • Step 2: Pay the admin fee of R400. Please note that the admin fee is due upfront. We will start with the process once the admin fee has been paid.

Interview Process

  • Step 3: We will send you Au Pair profiles that match your needs and requirements.

Hiring the Au Pair

  • Step 4: Inform Us! If you have found your perfect match, you inform us, and we help you with a contract between you and the Au Pair that you can amend accordingly, we strongly suggest having a contract in place. 

  • Final Step: Pay the placement fee
